I keep seeing the same question repeatedly: Do influencers need to be relatable? I thought it would be fun to examine this question and figure out what we really think about this as a collective, because, on the surface, I think it depends on who you ask.
I have so many complex thoughts on this subject, too! Thank you for your support. And reading my newsletter. Your newsletter helped me realize I need to make time to write today.
First of all, thank you so much for the kind words here. Sharing thoughts/feelings/writing on the internet is, as you said, really vulnerable, and to know that anything I share is connecting with someone out there is so encouraging. I, too, have so many thoughts on this subject, and I really enjoyed reading yours!
I love this topic - I agree that there are some influencers I follow because they’re relatable (i.e. someone I could see as a friend like Olivia or Grace) and those that I just love the aesthetic like Julia. I actually consider Courtney a weird mix of both because it’s like she’s in on the joke- she shows both H&M/Zara and The Row.
